book barcodes
ISBN-13 barcodes are the barcodes found on book covers. ISBN-13 bar codes are usually printed on the back cover but are sometimes found on the inside cover.
ISBN-13 bar codes are EAN-13 symbols based on a book’s ISBN number and include a 5-digit supplemental code on the right, which usually encodes the retail price. The supplemental code is the cover price with a leading "5" meaning U.S. dollars. (Trivia: 90000 is the non-price placeholder).
UPCTools prints ISBN-13 barcodes. My company (Azalea Software, Inc.) sells UPCTools so I’m a bit biased.
ISBN-13 barcodes replaced Bookland bar codes as of January 1, 2007. The ISBN numbers being assigned now are 13-digits long making the book numbering system GTIN-compliant.
