growing your own lemongrass
propogating lemongrass from cuttings
Fresh lemongrass is so much better than ratty, dried stuff. Fresh picked is best of all. Try it and I’m sure you’ll agree with me.
I tried grow my own using the fresh lemongrass (Cymbopogon citratus) from the grocery store. I started by picking out fresh, lively looking pieces and placing them in water in a sunny window. In a few weeks they sprouted roots.
I planted it and pretty much ignored it all summer, leaving it stranded up on our roof. Just in time for the 2nd driest summer on record in Seattle. It survived but barely. Fortunately it’s a perennial grass. I’ll winter it over and try again next year.
